SHENANDOAH – While emergency services were at the scene of a transformer fire in the 300 block of West Oak Street, a fight broke out half a block away, in which a state trooper was injured when a man struck and broke a window.

According to borough police at the scene, just before midnight, they responded to the intersection of Oak and Chestnut, where a large fight and an underage house party were found.

As officers were investigating the incident, a male, later identified as 18-year-old Jeffry Yan-Carlos Hichez, of Shenandoah, punched a window out.

“Glass struck a Pennsylvania State Police trooper in the face, causing injury,” Patrolman William Moyer said at the scene.

Police officers from several agencies, including Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, Mahanoy Township, West Mahanoy Township, Frackville, and State Police at Frackville were at the scene around midnight.

Yan-Carlos Hichez was arraigned early Sunday morning on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, scattering rubbish, and possession of alcohol underage. Bail was set at $20,000 straight cash.
