GIRARDVILLE – Like many other fire companies in the coal region, the Girard Hose Company #1 of Girardville hosts an annual block party.

What makes it unique from the others is that the customary fire apparatus parade comes on the last day of the event, instead of the first.

On Saturday, fire companies from across the region came to show support for the fire company, as well as to show off their trucks, with the chance to take home a trophy following the parade.

Awards were given in the categories of Best Appearing Engine, Best Appearing Ladder, Best Appearing Utility, and Best Overall Fire Company. Special Judges Awards were also awarded.

Taking home first place in the Engine category was Schuylkill Haven’s Schuylkill Hose Company.  Second was William Penn Fire Company, and third was Cumbola.
