SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – West Mahanoy Township and Shenandoah firefighters made quick work of an ATV fire at a Heights home Thursday night, saving the home in the process.

Firefighters were called to a home at 589 California Avenue around 10:30pm for reports of a vehicle fire endangering a structure.

Units arrived on scene to find a side-by-side at the rear of the home fully-involved, with a homeowner keeping the side wall of a garage and propane tanks cool with a garden hose.

The fire was extinguished within half an hour, though the vehicle was destroyed and the side wall of the nearby garage and pool were damaged by the heat.

Crews checked the wall of the garage with a thermal imaging camera to be sure the fire hadn’t spread inside.

Firefighters from the Shenandoah Heights, William Penn, Rescue Hook and Ladder, and Columbia fire companies responded to the scene as well as Shenandoah and West Mahanoy Township Police and Shenandoah Ambulance.

As of Thursday evening, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
