SHENANDOAH – Firefighters from Shenandoah, Shenandoah Heights, and William Penn handled a mountainside brush fire just over the borough line in West Mahanoy Township Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:15pm, a Shenandoah firefighter reported the fire to the Schuylkill County Communications Center via radio, reporting smoke visible on the mountain behind Marko Radiator on West Coal Street.

Flames were visible from West Washington Street in the area of Golden Years Adult Day Care, and a brush truck from Shenandoah Heights and William Penn were requested to assist Shenandoah’s Columbia and Rescue, Hook, and Ladder fire companies.

Firefighters used an access road at the top end of North Catherine Street to access the fire, which Shenandoah Chief Russell Schumack says was a minor brush fire, 200×200.

By 5:00pm, the fire was extinguished and crews cleared the scene.

A cause of the blaze has not been determined.
