Firefighters tackle coal truck fire near Maple Hill

MAPLE HILL – Shenandoah firefighters tackled a fire involving a water truck used for coal mining near Maple Hill, Mahanoy Township this afternoon.

The call came in just before 1:30pm for reports of a coal truck on fire on a haul road parallel to PA Route 54.

Firefighters from Shenandoah’s Rescue Hook and Ladder, Columbia, and Polish American fire companies responded to the scene.

Near the time of dispatch, smoke could be seen from Shenandoah’s east end near Bridge Street.

​Within about 20 minutes, firefighters had the fire extinguished and were clear of the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Assisting Shenandoah Fire at the scene were Shenandoah, Mahanoy Township, and Mahanoy City Police, Shenandoah Fire Police, and Shenandoah Ambulance.
