MAHANOY CITY – The whirring of generators as lunch is served up from windows of Grumman panel vans.

It’s a usual sight in the larger cities, such as Allentown or Philadelphia, but rare in the Coal Regions, though East Mahanoy Street was swarmed by food trucks and other mobile eateries Sunday afternoon.

Hundreds came out as the Good American Hose Company hosted their Food Truck Festival and craft show in and around their buildings at 8th and Mahanoy Streets from noon to 6pm Friday, bringing food trucks and trailers from as local as Saint Clair and Hazleton, and as far away as Allentown.

A wide variety of foods were available: roasted corn from Ziggy’s Roaster, Brazilian cuisine from Brasil on Wheels, cheesesteaks from Vince’s, homemade pierogies from Joe’s of Hazleton, and more.

Inside the fire station and the fire hall across 8th Street were craft vendors, selling nearly anything, from decorative coasters featuring northern Schuylkill schools, to Scentsy items, decorative signs to NFL tissue boxes, and more.

The event served as a kickoff event for the fire company’s quasquicentennial, or 125th anniversary.

In a few weeks, the fire company will host its annual block party, which will also include a stamp cancellation on the first day of the event, beginning on Friday June 22, running through the 24th.
