Furnace work creates smoke condition in neighboring buildings, draws fire response

SHENANDOAH – ​Work on a furnace created a smoke condition in a set of buildings at the corner of Oak and Main Streets today, prompting the response of firefighters.

​The call came in around noon for reports of smoke in a structure at Lightning Rent-To-Own at the corner of West Oak and South Main Streets.

Firefighters from the Shenandoah Fire Department and Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Co. were on the scene promptly, investigating the incident.

According to Shenandoah fire officials, furnace work in a building neighboring Lightning created a smoke condition in that building which extended to Lightning.

Crews handled the incident and were clear within about half an hour.

Assisting Shenandoah and Mahanoy City Fire were Shenandoah Ambulance, Frackville Ambulance, and Shenandoah Fire Police.
