Hillside SPCA continues to seek information on deceased East Union horses ; $1000 reward offered

POTTSVILLE – The Hillside SPCA is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of two deceased horses which were abandoned alongside a rural road in East Union Township.
The bodies of the horses were discovered alongside Girard Manor Road near Pole Road in a remote area of the township south of Sheppton.
The horses were estimated to be about six to eleven months old, “possibly of quarter horse lineage based on coat color, size, and straight profile of the face,” according to the Hillside SPCA.
They were discovered under a tan Shelter Logic-brand plastic tarp.
Schuylkill County Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $1,000 forinformation on the identity of the person responsible. They ask callers to refer to case 01-14-18 for tips called to their 877-TIPS4SC (877-847-7472) tipline.
Tips and information can also be called in to East Union Police via the the county communications center at 570-462-1992.
All information will remain confidential, and the Hillside SPCA is assisting East Union police in the investigation, and are offering an additional reward for information leading to an arrest.

Horse #1
- Chestnut filly – approximately 59 inches (14.3 hands), 356-pounds
- Hair coat is chestnut with light red to flaxen mane and tail, a blaze, and no white leg markings
- Acute dorsal abrasion and laceration with hemorrhage on left front fetlock
- Pink lead line knotted above right front fetlock
- Emaciated body condition
- Bronchopneumonia
- Gasterophilosis, ascariasis (infection from botfly larvae and roundworms)
Horse #2
- Cremello filly – approximately 51 inches (12.3 hands), 296.5-pounds
- Hair coat, mane, and tail are a pale cream color, pink skin, and golden yellow irises
- A Weaver brand green halter was fastened on the head; halter label on the inside of the crownpiece read: ¾ ” weanling horse 200-300 pound size
- Emaciated body condition
- Bronchopneumonia
- Gasterophilosis, ascariasis (infection from botfly larvae and roundworms)
