MAHANOY CITY – The Miners may have gotten first blood and scored first, but it was the Bears who roared on Homecoming night in Mahanoy City Friday night.

Sporting throwback jerseys, the Golden Bears of Mahanoy Area entered the game 3-3, facing an Minersville squad with an even record.

The Miners scored first, on a quarterback keeper by #14 Scott Schwalm with about five minutes left in the first quarter.

Mahanoy Area, though, answered in a similar fashion, as senior quarterback #11 Danny Lawrence found the endzone with about a minute left in the first, knotting the score up at 7 apiece.
