BARNESVILLE – A New Jersey man suffered no injuries when he flew his glider into Schuylkill County from New Jersey and made an emergency landing near Barnesville yesterday afternoon.

According to Rush Township Police, the incident occurred around 4:00pm when police received reports that a small fixed-wing aircraft made an emergency landing in a field near Barnesville, in the 200 block of Fairview Street.

There, it was found that a glider, piloted by Claudio Abreu, 74, of Great Meadows, New Jersey, landed there after losing thermal lift in the county. Police said he had taken off from an airport in New Jersey.

No one was injured, and the glider was retrieved by a colleague of Abreu.
