Locust Mtn. brush fire burns quarter of an acre

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – A brush fire along the side of Route 924 atop Locust Mountain near Shenandoah Heights burned a quarter of an acre before firefighters brought it under control this afternoon.

Firefighters from Shenandoah, Shenandoah Heights, and William Penn were dispatched to the intersection of Ringtown Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue for reports of a brush fire just before 4:30pm today.

When crews arrived, they said they found fire at the bottom of the roadside embankment which spread up to Route 924 and along the shoulder.

Within half an hour, the fire was extinguished, and crews were clear of the scene.
