MAHANOY CITY - The borough of Mahanoy City at their regular council meeting Tuesday hired a secretary, accepted two civil service commission resignations, and appointed two others to the commission.
In a unanimous vote, Brooke Kaczmarczyk was hired for the secretary position, vacated by Cindy Soley, who was hired as borough manager in June.
Kaczmarczyk had already been performing the duties of the position, serving as secretary for Tuesday's meeting.
In other business, borough council approved the resignation of Edith Rhoades and James Whalen from the civil service commission. Then, council appointed Steve Letcavage and Kenneth Soult to the commission.
In the public comment portion of the meeting, a resident asked how they found candidates for the commission, to which council president Thom Maziekas said they ask the senior member of the commission for recommendations and go from there.
