Mahanoy City hires secretary, appoints two to Civil Service Commission

MAHANOY CITY – The borough of Mahanoy City at their regular council meeting Tuesday hired a secretary, accepted two civil service commission resignations, and appointed two others to the commission.

In a unanimous vote, Brooke Kaczmarczyk was hired for the secretary position, vacated by Cindy Soley, who was hired as borough manager in June.

Kaczmarczyk had already been performing the duties of the position, serving as secretary for Tuesday’s meeting.

In other business, borough council approved the resignation of Edith Rhoades and James Whalen from the civil service commission. Then, council appointed Steve Letcavage and Kenneth Soult to the commission.

In the public comment portion of the meeting, a resident asked how they found candidates for the commission, to which council president Thom Maziekas said they ask the senior member of the commission for recommendations and go from there.

Council also:

  • Motioned to advertise for part-time police officers.
  • Approved the budget for the 2018 Community Development Block Grant program
  • Approved the CDBG Fair Housing resolution
  • Approved handicapped parking requests for
    -31 West Market Street, McNiff’s for customer parking
    -210 West Spruce Street
    -537 East Centre Street.
