Mahanoy City lines streets to welcome home fallen servicemember

MAHANOY CITY – Borough residents lined Center Street as a procession brought the late SPC Peter Luddy back to his hometown on Thursday night.

Escorted by patrol cars from Mahanoy City PD, the State Police at Frackville, and American Legion riders, a hearse and van brought Luddy through Mahanoy City, from the Vulcan to the Truskowsky Funeral Home at Centre and Catawissa, passing under two Mahanoy City aerial’s draping a flag over the main road around 10:30pm.

Tailing the procession were patrol cars from the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office and Mahanoy Township, more American Legion riders, and Mahanoy City fire apparatus.

Luddy, 21, passed away on Tuesday, May 8 at a Virginia hospital from a traumatic brain injury while on a training mission with the U.S. Army Reserves, of which he was a member.
