“Unfortunately, Mr. Hanley passed away during our senior year. He was a true friend of education and supported all that is Mahanoy Area,” said Boyle. “In remembrance of Mr. Hanley, the Class of 2019 would like to present a gift to the school district.”

Boyle added the class’s wish is for the bench to be placed near the entrance to the high school.

The bench, which was displayed at the graduation ceremony, is black with a dedication plaque reading “In Remembrance of Jay Hanley, Former Mahanoy Area School Board President, “A True Friend to Education.”
