Mahanoy man charged for assaulting 9-year-old girl

MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City man is in Schuylkill County Prison after borough police say he struck a nine-year-old girl during an argument this past Sunday.

According to borough police, officers were called to a home in the 400 block of West Market Street around 6:00pm Sunday for reports of a domestic disturbance possibly involving the assault of a child.

Responding officers found that a man, Regenald Rogers, 27, struck a nine-year-old girl over the head with a plastic guitar, stepped on her chest, and threw a five-foot tall shoe rack across her body, police said.

He also resisted attempts by police to take him into custody.

The girl was evaluated at the scene by Shenandoah Ambulance, but did not require transportation to the hospital.

Rogers was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Ferrier and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, in lieu of $15,000 straight cash bail. He will after to answer to charges of Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Resisting Arrest, and Harassment before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, Shenandoah.
