MOUNT CARMEL, Northumberland County –  PP&L announced yesterday grant recipients for its foundation’s Empowering Educators program, and a couple educators from Mount Carmel were among them.

The $1,000 grants are intended to support science, technology, engineering, and math activities.

“There’s no shortage of innovative ideas from teachers who are working to use hands-on learning opportunities to bring STEM subjects to life for their students,” said Lissette Santana, chief operating officer of the PPL Foundation. “The PPL Foundation is excited to support the efforts of inspiring educators to bring their ideas to life.”

Among the recipients were Trisha Sheehe, a computers teacher at Mount Carmel High School, to create a makerspace “to be used by more than 100 students,” and Jesse Wagner, a science teacher at the same school, for materials to enhance the physics curriculum on the “current wars” between Tesla and Edison.
