Morales named SV student of the month

SHENANDOAH – Another Student of the Month you’re likely to know if you frequent borough businesses, Crystal Morales was named the Shenandoah Valley Student of the Month for October.

The daughter of Maria Colon, Morales is heavily involved in the borough and school communities.

She plans to attend Bloomsburg University in pursuit of a nursing degree, and has shadowed at St. Luke’s Health Network.

Her community service activities include being a apart of the committees for Red Ribbon Week, Toys for Tots, and Penny Wars, as well as being a student representative for Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. She also volunteers for Restoration Fellowship Church, West and Oak Streets.

She is a member of the cheerleading, volleyball, and track teams, and is a student council member. She has been a part of the Schuylkill County Youth Summit and Young Entrepreneurs Academy, through which she developed a business entitled “The Bright Side” to help spread awareness about suicide prevention. A part of the practical nursing program at Schuylkill Technology Center, she placed second in districts in CPR and first aid for SkillsUSA.

She is a part of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society as well.

She was named student of the month for the Schuylkill Technology Center twice — in November 2017 and April 2019. She is also CPR, AED, and first aid certified, She also holds her OSHA 10 hour healthcare certification, personal care home direct care staff certification, and stop the bleed certification.

In her personal life, she helps her mom work on houses and has worked at Boyer’s Food Markets, West Centre and Vine Streets, for a year and a half.
