North Schuylkill hosts annual marching band competition

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – A misty Saturday evening brought five area bands out to Spartan Stadium in Fountain Springs for a competition under the lights.

The annual event hosted by North Schuylkill is a part of the regional Tournament of Bands circuit.

According to their website, “TOB sanctions approximately 100 field band events and nearly 100 indoor events as well as two major championships at the conclusion of each competitive season. On any given Saturday night in the fall, the TOB will have from 8 to 14 field band competitions providing the opportunity for hundreds of Marching Bands to participate in its competitive arena.”

Bands from as far as Easton and Selinsgrove entered Saturday’s competition, along with Schuylkill County bands Tamaqua, Schuylkill Haven, and Blue Mountain.

The competition was split into groups based on the bands size, and categories based on their competition level.. All five bands were split.

The results were as follows:
Group 1 – Festival
1. Schuylkill Haven – Silver

Group 1-A
1. Blue Mountain – 87.115

Group 2-A
1.  Wilson Area – 85.010

Group 4 – Festival
1. Tamaqua – Silver

Group 2 – Open
1. Shikellamy – 84.90
