SHENANDOAH – All schools in our area were recently awarded $25,000 School Safety and Security Grant Program grants, to “hire school security officers, purchase security-related technology, complete safety and security assessments, implement violence prevention curricula, and offer counseling services for students and other programs to protect students.”

Such grants were announced for schools across the state Wednesday, and Senator David G. Argall’s office confirmed Thursday morning all schools in his district were awarded the $25,000 grants. That includes Shenandoah Valley, Mahanoy Area, and North Schuylkill. Also awarded grants were Mount Carmel, Hazleton Area, Southern Columbia, and Bloomsburg Area.

The grants come from “$60 million in new funding created during the 2018-2019 budget to help improve student and school safety.”

“I was pleased to strongly support this bipartisan effort to protect our students and educators in the school setting,” said Senator John Gordner (R-27), whose district covers Mount Carmel, Hazleton, and Southern Columbia..  “This grant program came together through the collective efforts of many individuals, including members of the General Assembly, school administrators, teachers, students and law enforcement.”

“These grants would not have been possible without the bipartisan cooperation of lawmakers and the valuable input of schools, teachers, students, law enforcement and other experts in school safety,” Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Dauphin) said. “Protecting our schools was a point of emphasis for me during the budget process, and I am grateful that our local schools will soon see the benefits of this new grant program.”

“These grants would not have been possible without the bipartisan cooperation of lawmakers and the valuable input of schools, teachers, students, law enforcement, and other experts in school safety,” Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) said. “Protecting our schools was a point of emphasis for me during the budget process, and I am grateful that our local schools will soon see the benefits of this new grant program.”
