MAHANOY CITY - On Monday, November 5, a safety drill will be held at the Mahanoy Area School District complex, the district announced on its Facebook page.
Superintendent Dr. Joie L. Green wrote, "the safety and security of the students and staff of the Mahanoy Area School district is a top concern of our administrators. In today’s world we need to prepare plans that coordinate the response of emergency agencies to various types of events, including severe weather, school bus accidents, incidents of school violence, and other potential emergencies.
According to PA Act 44 of 2018, it is required of all schools to hold a safety and security drill within the first 90 days of school. This can be done in place of a fire drill.
Therefore, on Monday, November 5, 2018, in order to achieve compliance with PA Act 44 of 2018, a Critical Incident Response Exercise will be conducted at the Mahanoy Area School District. THIS IS ONLY A DRILL! Students and staff will be involved and participate. Both the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High School will not be accessible during the drill, and for safety and security purposes, this exercise will not be open to the general public. Please be aware that several road closings may occur around the school from 8:30AM until NOON."
"The exercise is based on a police incident occurring at the high school that requires a combined response from police, fire, and emergency medical services agencies," Green added. "We wish to take this opportunity to thank the local agencies sharing in our concerns and participating in this emergency exercise."
