BLOOMSBURG, Columbia County – An overnight blaze decimated a duplex and damaged several others in Bloomsburg early Sunday morning.

Fire crews were called to the 300 block of Fair Street in the town, near the Geisinger hospital and Bloomsburg University, for the fire. Flames quickly engulfed the first duplex, spreading to adjoining homes and melting the siding on a property across the street.

About 15 hours later, around 4:00pm, the ruins of the duplex continued to smolder. The roadway was closed to traffic Sunday afternoon as Service Electric crews worked to restore service to the neighborhood and a Bloomsburg police officer stood watch.

According to WNEP-TV, four people lived in the duplex, three of whom are accounted for. The fourth remains missing, and crews will continue to search for them.

A State Police fire marshal will be called in to investigate.
