BARNESVILLE – Rush Township Police, last week, took into custody a fugitive wanted on multiple warrants, including a March 2018 warrant filed by the department, and another filed by the Schuylkill County Detective’s Office.

Samuel Smolar, 29, was taken into custody at 58 Golf Road in the village on September 26, wanted on charges of simple assault, strangulation, and drug violations.

“This fugitive apprehension is just another fine example of the hard work of the men and women of the Rush Township Police Department,” said chief Ken Zipovsky. “The Rush Township Police is committed to making a safer community.”

Smolar was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail from the assault charges at $5,000 from the drug violations.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November in the office of Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer.
