SHENANDOAH – In a special meeting of the Shenandoah Valley School District Board of Directors held Monday afternoon, the district hired an emotional support teacher, rescinded a coal bid approved last month, and approved a new coal bid.

The meeting began at 5:30pm and concluded three minutes later.

The first order of business for the five board members in attendance was to approve the hiring of Angel VanBlargan as an emotional support teacher at a salary of $37,311.

Next was to rescind a previously approved coal bid from a Northumberland County company. On June 29, the board approved the bid from Gazdich Supply of Mount Carmel for $142.64 per ton.

Finally, the board approved a coal bid from Blaschak Coal, Mahanoy City. Blaschak’s bid, according to superintendent Brian Waite, was $144.25 per ton.

Present at Monday’s special meeting along with the superintendent were board president Daniel Salvadore, secretary Karen Kayes, members Dr. Jodi Loughlin, Joseph Buchanan, and John Petritsch.

The board’s regular meeting for August 22 was moved to August 29, as well.
