SHENANDOAH – On a misty final evening of summer, Shenandoah Valley’s annual homecoming tradition of a float parade and the crowning of a homecoming queen occurred.

Shenandoah Valley High School’s four upper classes devised floats with a comic theme to lead the parade, followed by the homecoming court, and Shenandoah’s youth football players and cheerleaders.

Assembling at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community on East Washington Street, the parade moved through downtown Shenandoah to Main and Centre, proceeding down West Centre to the football stadium.

The homecoming court rode in vehicles ranging from brand new Corvettes to Mustangs to Audis, even a Ram pickup.

Parade floats included Spiderman, Superman, Batman, and Captain America.

At halftime, the marching band formed a column at midfield, and the 2018 homecoming court was introduced.

After all were introduced, speaker Nikole Haller announced 2018’s Homecoming Queen, Melissa Chinchay.

Then, the float winners were revealed. The order was:

  1. Seniors – Spiderman
  2. Juniors – Captain America
  3. Sophomores – Batman
  4. Freshmen – Superman.
