STS to end Schuylkill Mall bus service

By Kaylee Lindenmuth

POTTSVILLE – The Schuylkill Transportation System has announced a multitude of changes coming to its fixed route bus service in 2018.

Among those changes is the end of fixed route service to the Schuylkill Mall, effective Jan. 2, 2017.

The mall is slated for demolition, as new owners Northpoint Development look to redevelop the property into two industrial warehouses.

However, STS will continue to serve the Big Lots building at the mall site as a request stop.

Other changes to routes servicing northern Schuylkill County include:

  • Route #10 – Shenandoah: On Saturdays, a 10:30am northbound route from Pottsville will be added, as well as a noon route from Shenandoah.
  • Route #51 – Mahanoy City: Time changes to the schedule on Saturday: The last bus to leave Shenandoah for Mahanoy City will be at 3:00pm
  • Route #52 – Ashland: Route patterns on the 9:00am and 10:30am routes have changed for Monday-Friday.
Saturday: 9:00am Shenandoah-Ashland bus continues to Walmart and the Fairlane Village Mall for 10:10am, and a 1:30pm Pottsville-Ashland route has been added.
