SHENANDOAH – A burned-out table saw created a smoke condition which drew firefighters to a mixed-use building at the south end of downtown Shenandoah Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters from Shenandoah and Mahanoy City were called to 324 South Main Street just before 5:00pm this afternoon for reports of smoke in a structure in the Karpovich’s Gym building.

Crews arrived to find nothing showing from the exterior, and crews began investigating and searching the building, while fire police closed Main Street from Herald Road to Poplar Street.

According to fire officials, a table saw in an upper floor burned up, creating a smoke condition in the building, and no fire was reported.

Firefighters were clear of the scene within about half an hour.
