NUREMBERG – Two escaped injury after a tree landed on their vehicle as they traveled along Mountain Road in North Union Township around midnight Sunday into Monday.

The tree also struck power and utility lines, causing a power outage in the area.

Fire crews from Nuremberg-Weston were dispatched just before midnight to the area of Millers Road and Mountain Road for the incident, which occurred between the intersection and a sewage treatment facility.

The tree fell from the west side of the roadway, sprawling across the roadway and landing atop the vehicle, travelling northbound, and utility lines on the eastern side.

According to Nuremberg-Weston fire crews, the occupants of the vehicle were uninjured, and the roadway would be closed until part of the tree could be cleared, which it was estimated would take about an hour from about 12:30am. Then, the roadway could partially reopen while a PP&L crew worked to restore power.

According to PP&L’s outage map, 532 were without power in North Union Township early Monday morning.

Assisting Nuremberg-Weston fire at the scene were troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville.
