Two flown after separate ATV accidents within two hours; Five since Thursday in Schuylkill County

SHENANDOAH – Two individuals were flown after two separate ATV accidents within two hours of each other on Sunday afternoon.

Both incidents occurred in the Greater Shenandoah Area – one in Shenandoah borough, the other in West Mahanoy Township.

The first occurred shortly before 4:30pm in the area of the Rosa Breaker, behind Boyer’s Food Markets on Shenandoah’s west end.

Firefighters were dispatched to the area of West Oak and South Vine Streets, where the access point to the site is.

Crews from Shenandoah’s Rescue, Hook & Ladder company and Columbia Fire Company carried a victim from the scene to an awaiting Shenandoah Ambulance.

From there, the victim was transported to an awaiting MedEvac Helicopter at the Shenandoah helipad, where they were flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest.

The second occurred at 300 Raven Run Road in West Mahanoy Township around 6:15pm.

Shenandoah Heights and William Penn fire crews were dispatched to the scene along with Shenandoah ALS.

Crews found a female suffering from a head injury at the scene.

The victim was also transported to the Shenandoah helipad to an awaiting MedEvac helicopter.

​​The two accidents were among five which have occurred in Schuylkill County since Thursday, and were among three on Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Township – Thursday
On Thursday around 4:45pm, fire crews from Altamont, Englewood, Frackville, and Ryan Township were dispatched to the area of SCI-Frackville for an ATV Accident in that wooded area of Ryan Township.

Crews found the victim, who was not breathing, behind Wheelabrator Frackville Energy Co.

A Shenandoah paramedic administered first aid before the man could be transported to an awaiting ambulance.

Using a pickup truck and an SUV, crews were able to transport the male victim from the crash site to an awaiting ambulance around 5:22pm.

From there, the victim was taken to SCI-Mahanoy to an awaiting MedEvac helicopter where he was flown to a trauma center.

Butler Township – Saturday
Around 2:13pm on Saturday, fire crews from Butler Township and Ashland, along with Ashland Ambulance and Shenandoah Ambulance, were dispatched to the area of Lincoln Lane and Runge Road in the township.

Crews found a male victim at the scene, near Lavelle, who suffered a leg injury.

The male was transported via ambulance to the Schuylkill County Airport to an awaiting medical helicopter.

West Penn Township – Sunday
Around 7:00pm on Sunday, fire crews in West Penn Township rescued a female victim after an ATV accident in that township.

The victim was transported via ambulance to an awaiting LifeFlight helicopter at Leiby’s, near Tamaqua.
