SHENANDOAH – Two people were injured in a head-on collision on the borough’s east end on Saturday.

According to State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred on East Centre Street (PA-54) just past Franklin Street heading towards Mahanoy City around noon.

Troopers say a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 55-year-old Joseph Elliss, of Mahanoy City, was driving eastbound, uphill towards Mahanoy City, when snowy conditions caused him to slide into the westbound lane.

That’s where his vehicle struck a westbound 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Victor Portes Liriano, 52, of Shenandoah, in a head-on collision.

Both drivers were seatbelted, and were transported to a Pottsville hospital by Shenandoah Ambulance. for treatment of injuries.

A fire crew from Shenandoah’s Rescue, Hook, & Ladder Fire Company responded to the scene along with two units from Shenandoah Ambulance.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, which was done by Steve’s Towing, of Shenandoah.
