Vehicle strikes house in Hometown, man taken from scene in handcuffs

HOMETOWN – A vehicle struck the side wall of a home in Hometown Monday afternoon, and a man was taken from the crash scene in handcuffs.

The crash occurred around 5:30pm when a Nissan Altima struck the side wall of a garage at a home at 41 Lafayette Avenue, Route 54, in the Rush Township village, leaving tire tracks through the yard.

Fire crews arrived to find the driver trapped in the vehicle, and crews from Hometown and Tamaqua extricated the man within about 10 minutes.

Firefighters were advised of possible fire at the time of dispatch as well.

Police officers from Tamaqua and Rush Township were at the scene, and escorted a man from an ambulance to a Rush Township police car.

​According to published reports, the vehicle drove through several yards on the south side of Route 54 before veering north, into the yard of 41 Lafayette, and striking the wall of the home and injuring the driver.

It is not known as of 7:45pm Monday what charges, if any, the man, who was evaluate at the scene by Tamaqua Ambulance, faces.

Assisting Hometown Fire at the scene were Hometown Fire Police, Tamaqua Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, Tamaqua Rescue, Tamaqua Police, and Rush Township Police.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by Hope’s Towing.
