MAHANOY TOWNSHIP – Fifty-nine people will be out of a job come February, when a Texas-based bedding manufacturer plans to close its Mahanoy Township plant.

Corsicana Mattress Company, based in Corsicana, Texas, filed a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry recently, saying its 1214 Morea Road plant will close Feb. 3.

According to the notice, 59 employees will be displaced by the closure.

Corsicana, according to its website, has 13 plants across the United States, in Texas, Tennessee, Illinois, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, Washington, Alabama, and Connecticut along with the Mahanoy Township plant.

No word as to why the local plant will be closing has been released by the company, nor is it clear if any other plants will be closed. WARN notices were not filed in any other state in which Corsicana operates.

The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers with more than 100 employees to file a public notice if they intend to close a facility or enact mass layoffs.
