SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – At their regularly monthly meeting Tuesday evening, West Mahanoy Township supervisors approved their final 2019 budget, and approved advertising for a noise ordinance amendment.

The 2019 budget includes revenues and expenditures totaling $1,872,000, with no tax increase for township residents. The budget is an increase of $53,500 from 2018’s.

The budget was adjusted from the tentative budget approved last month, correcting the Shenandoah borough’s sewer rate increase as well as factoring in additional revenue.

Supervisors also moved to advertise Ordinance 2019-1 which will amend the township’s noise ordinance, prohibiting “the discharge of any firecrackers, fireworks, or other devices in such a manner to cause annoyance or disturb the quiet, comfort or repose of persons in any office, hospital, or any dwelling, hotel or other type of residence or of any person in the vicinity.”

The amendment also adds penalties for such actions, including a fine of no more than $1,000, and jail time of no more than 30 days. The ordinance will be up for approval at a meeting in January.

In other business, township supervisors:

  • noted a letter received from PennDOT regarding the condition of Raven Run Road between the villages of Raven Run and William Penn,
  • noted a letter received from William Brior, announcing his retirement as township Sewer Enforcement Officer,
  • noted a letter from Shenandoah borough regarding the $1 increase in the sewer rate,
  • approved the purchase via COSTARS of a new Caterpillar 420F2 Backhoe to replace a 2006 Case backhoe at the cost of $80,959, financed through FIrst National Bank,
