West Mahanoy Township applies for grant for new police vehicle

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – On Tuesday night, West Mahanoy Township’s Supervisors approved a motion to complete several items as part of the application process for a Rural Development grant from the United States Department of Agriculture. If awarded, the grant funding will be used towards the purchase of a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility for the township police department, replacing its 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.

​If approved, the grant will cover $6,800 of the cost of the new vehicle, which is $45,830. The rest of the cost will be covered by a $35,000 loan from First National Bank and a $4,030 contribution from the township.

The steps taken at Tuesday night’s meeting included a request for Obligation of Funds, a completion of a Letter of Intent to Meet Conditions, completion of a Community Facilities Gran Agreement and Standard Form 3881, ACH Vendor/Miscellaneous Payroll Enrollment Form.
In other business, township supervisors:

  • Adopted Ordinance 2017-1, amending the zoning ordinance related to livestock
  • Adopted Ordinance 2017-2, amending the stop sign ordinance, adding a list of all stop signs in the township
  • Noted a public hearing would be held on July 18 during the supervisors’ regular meeting to hear T&J Petroleum LLC’s request to transfer a liquor license from the Clarion House in Saint Clair to the Frackville Exxon, 541 Altamont Boulevard, Altamont.
  • Approved a motion to advertise for bids for equipment rental for the 2017 road program.
