ASHLAND – In April, the Frackville Elks held a fundraiser to help the victims of a major blaze in Ashland which occurred in February.

At tonight’s meeting of borough council, two members of the Elks requested borough council’s assistance in getting the raised funds to the eight displaced family

“It’s been a few months, but we’ve been trying to get ahold of the right people, and we finally got some answers recently and we were able to bring the donations here to a meeting,” said Bill Mack, Frackville Elks lodge secretary.

According to Don Dudash, accounting secretary for the lodge, the organization had difficulty reaching contacts they had established prior to the fundraiser.

”It’s not every day you can’t give away $3,000,” Dudash said of the difficulties.

Dudash said the $3,000 has been divided up for eight families in the form of gift cards for Boyer’s and Walmart. Mayor Ray Walacavage provided the names of the families to the Elks.

“This is great. I have to give it to you guys, you went out of your way to do this, and not everybody does,” said Walacavage.

“Council and the borough appreciates and thanks you for your courtesy and generosity,” said councilman Barry Spieles.
